Sometimes when you work inside, you might sit, breathe, and get lost. You might go inside and disappear. So, what do you do?

You tie a string onto yourself like you would if you were going into a cave. You attach yourself to a string and consciously say, “Okay, I’m starting today. On my psychic body, on my spiritual body, I want to tie a string and watch myself.” Feel yourself do it and then try to reel yourself in a couple of times an hour. Yank on the string. Make an effort and say, “Look, I really want to pull,” and you pull yourself out of the maze that you let yourself get lost in. If you do this consciously while you are working, it may take six months, but it will be there—right by the front door. You will be two feet away, you will give a jerk, and the string will be there. Keep pulling until you pull yourself back into yourself.

You can’t afford to sit down and allow yourself to wander off into the maze and get lost. That’s not meditation. You have to constantly pull yourself back. We live by what we demand of ourselves. Finally, that demand to be here instead of out there somewhere will be inside you. Start your day by saying, “All right, here I am, I know I am going to get lost in that maze,” and tie a string to yourself. The next day, tie a shorter string. And during the day, pull on it a couple of times and say, “Come on back,” and you will come back. You really will. It is that simple. You have to be aware of it as a conscious effort you can make.
